Manurewa High School has been announced a Microsoft IT Academy school in 2015.
Microsoft IT Academy is a global programme of over 10,000 academic institutions in more than 160 countries. It provides the resources and curriculum for an institution to deliver ICT courses and skills to students and the local community.
The programme is designed to help drive employability, digital literacy, technical training and certification, and 21st century workforce development for students; ongoing professional development opportunities for teachers; and provide schools with the ability to offer training to the wider community as well.
The course is based online and the school manages their own administration of it. It’s designed as a self-paced programme and can fit around a school’s existing timetable.
Next year Manurewa High School will access the programme's broad range of resources and support. This will allow us to deliver quality, in depth programmes that build our student and staff computing skills.
In 2015 Manurewa High will offer the Microsoft Office Specialist and Microsoft Technology Associate qualifications - both are industry recognised qualifications which demonstrate student's proficiency in a range of Microsoft programmes. The Office Specialist qualification covers Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OneNote, Access, Outlook, Office 365 and Sharepoint and the Technology Associate covers a range of technical areas including web development, server, networking, gaming development and operating systems.
This is a fantastic opportunity for our school to offer a programme which enhances student's employability in an increasingly difficult job market.
