Utsonomiya visit - March 2017

In Term 1 2017, we hosted students from Utsunomiya Junior High School, Japan. They were here for a very short visit in March but managed to experience a wide variety of activities within the school and in our wider community.

During the weekend, they had a tour of Auckland City attractions including the War Memorial Museum, Bastion Point and the Sky Tower. The most popular activity was lunch at Fortuna!

Homestay families also did an amazing job of showing their visitors around our local area, taking the students to the Botanic Gardens and even an afternoon session at Jump Trampoline Park.

Shopping for souvenirs was also enjoyed, with the favourite items being honey and chocolate.

After an amazing powhiri at school, Utsunomiya students were buddied up with students from Japanese classes and they experienced a day in the life of a Manurewa High School student.

Specialist classes in English Language Learning and Food Technology (baking Anzac cookies) were also enjoyed.

As Utsunomiya is a sister city to Auckland, a courtesy visit to the Auckland Council in the Town Hall rounded of the trip.

We are looking forward to two more short tours from Utsunomiya in July and August this year. If any student would like to be a homestay host for the visits please contact Mrs Lyn Mulcahy, Director of International Students, at [email protected].
